• You don?t get 5 stars from so many people unless it?s true! Beth and Steve are the real deal! New England Gem Appraisals has a real office and with all their diplomas, you immediately know they are the consummate professionals in their field. Be sure to set up an appointment with them, an easy thing to do through their website. They responded quickly to my initial inquiry. I did not need to leave my jewelry with them, a huge bonus and relief. My jewelry never left my sight. They did the initial evaluation and photography during the appointment. My appraisal was mailed to me a few days later. It was a bound book, very different from my previous one-page jewelry store appraisals. During the appointment, they gave me all sorts of extra information about my diamonds, something no one else ever did. I was finally able to see what my diamond really looked like! It?s an incredible experience that I never expected from ?you need to get a new appraisal in order to get new insurance?. It was actually fun and educational. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND New England Gem Appraisals! (And the European Bakery shop downstairs is a real plus!)

• I recently made a large diamond ring purchase, and was seeking an independent appraiser, one that wouldn't be biased and would give me an honest appraisal. I searched online and found New England Gem Appraisals as one of the recommended appraisers in the Boston area. I shot Beth Doughty an e-mail, and she was very quick to call me back. She was also very accommodating to my scheduling needs. During our meeting, she examined the ring without looking at any of the documentation so that she could give me her honest opinion without being biased towards the information provided on the GIA Cert. She was able to verify the stats of the diamond and ring, and matched what was provided on the GIA Cert, which was assuring. She explained in detail as she performed each step in her examination process, allowing me to absorb her wealth of information. She was patient with me as I asked her question after question. Once the examination was complete, she told me it would take her a couple days to complete the appraisal report. I was blown away when I received it. The depth and information provided on the appraisal is much more than I was expecting. She went beyond my expectations. I highly recommend Beth Doughty for all your jewelry appraising needs. She will not disappoint.

• A HUGE THANKS to New England Gem Appraisals! I recently took a Caribbean cruise and fell for the slick marketing techniques telling us how to buy jewelry on the islands. I bought a beautiful fancy cut diamond ring for a fraction of its price! Did I ever feel good about the deal. When I returned home, I took it to my local jeweler to confirm my brilliance. Was I surprised when he told me the diamond was lower quality than the Caribbean jeweler told me it was, the one page appraisal I received was a marketing gimmick, and the worst part was the price I paid was no deal. I felt taken. I called the Caribbean jeweler to return the ring explaining that my local jeweler told it was substandard in quality. To my amazement, they informed me I would need a written appraisal from an Independent Certified Jewelry Appraiser before they would even consider taking the ring back! They told me my local jeweler was not acceptable as he was biased. I needed to find a truly independent jewelry appraiser, one that did not work in a jewelry store, buy or sell gold or jewelry, and was certified as a jewelry appraiser by a national jewelry appraisal association. After a great deal of searching, I found out there is only ONE jewelry appraiser in the New England area that is truly independent and certified! She was GREAT! Beth explained everything about my diamond ring, showed me the diamond under the microscope, and showed me under the microscope the differences between diamond and the Caribbean jeweler?s appraisal. What I learned from Beth was worth more than the cost of the appraisal! Armed with her written appraisal, I was finally able to return the ring. If you need a FABULOUS appraiser, call New England Gem Appraisals!
